Austen recently completed a Sea Grant Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship in Rep. Jared Huffman's (D-CA-02) office where she worked on wildlife, ocean, and climate issues. She has a background in coral reef ecology, nature-based solutions, and coastal management and holds a Master's degree in coastal science and policy from UC Santa Cruz.

Leigh has more than a decade of experience working in the ocean and fisheries space, most recently serving as the Executive Director of Seafood Harvesters of America for nearly seven years. Having spent time working on the Hill and in the private and nonprofit sectors, she has extensive knowledge of fisheries management, coastal restoration, and ocean policy. Leigh holds a Master's of Marine Affairs from the University of Rhode Island.
